How to Make a Pinterest-Perfect, Dad Sign with Your Laser Cutter.

How to Make a Pinterest-Perfect, Dad Sign with Your Laser Cutter.

Father's Day is just around the corner, and what better way to show your Dad how much you love him than with a personalized sign? This project is simple and easy to do, and it can be customized to your Dad's interests.

What you will need

  • Cardboard
  • Kids paint- Waterbased paint to make for easy clean up
  • Laser cutter – If you do not have a laser cutter you can just use scissors
  • Magnets- To hold down the cardboard.
  • Optional: Glitter, markers, or other embellishments

Instructions

  1. Paint the cardboard. Let the paint dry completely. This is where you can get creative! Use your kids' favorite colors to paint the cardboard or use a specific color scheme to match your dad's favorite team or hobby. I poured the paint directly onto the cardboard and then let my toddler's finger paint the board. We then added dots with dot markers.
  2. Open Lightburn and Type out “DAD”
  3. Scale the image to the desired size. I am using my full bed size for this project scaling it to 35” X 23”.
  4. Set your origin and frame your design.
  5. Use your power and speed settings. I am using an AEON Mira 9 with the following setting:
    • Speed: 100
    • Power: 50
  1. Use magnets to hold the cardboard in place.
  2. Cut the image out of the cardboard. When cutting cardboard I make sure I am standing and watching the cardboard at all times. Cardboard can easily catch fire.
  3. Take photos with the letters to give to your Dad on Father's Day!
  4. Put the photos in a frame.

Once you're happy with the sign, you can take photos with it to give to your dad on Father's Day. He's sure to love this personalized gift!

No matter how you choose to make it, your Dad is sure to love this personalized sign. So get creative and have fun!
